Things in the world change in two ways. First, they change throughout time. Second, everything in this world is influenced by other elements of the world, and thus all existence is contingent upon something else. Because of this state of interdependence, everything that exists in this world is subject to change and is thus impermanent. Impermanence is the cause of suffering, because humans attempt to hold on to things that are constantly changing, on the mistaken assumption that those things are permanent.

What about holding on to impermanent things if they are simply changing not dying for instance?

i think that thing A turns into thing B by change - then how can you hold on to B when you holding on to A?

you can simply shift your hands from A to B, I suppose:)

isn't pain one of the problems?!

well, this is the whole point - if you hold on to something impermanent, then world will change, and then you feel the pain.

I'm not so sure though, if you are aware that what you are holding to is impermanent you are ready to accept it when it has changed. Moreover it's fun to observe the changes, nothing is duller than something that never changes:))

well, i guess there is a difference between change inside of the thing and change of the thing itself :)

Naturally there is:) But one just shouldn't forget that he changes too, inside as well as outside:))

Do you mean to say that there is still something permanent around us?

WE are the permanent subjects :)

From: [identity profile] emerald76.livejournal.com
Then why holding on to these permanent subjects always causes this fucking pain???:)

permanence is not that "he will always love you till the end of time" but "he will always search for better/newer expirience" :)
